Mahan forests declared no-go for mining!
Great news! The Ministry of Environment, Forests & Climate Change, has declared Mahan forests as a no-go zone for mining!
This vindicates our efforts in saving one of India’s oldest forests and protecting the livelihoods of people dependent on it.
In response to an RTI filed by Greenpeace, the MoEF affirmed that the Mahan coal block may not be put on auction for coal mining as it falls in 'inviolate forests'.
This is the third time the Environment Ministry has told the Coal Ministry to not allow mining in Mahan. The coal block will impact endangered wildlife; destroy over 4 lakh trees and the livelihoods of more than 50,000 people.
Your support will ensure that the Coal Ministry follows the Ministry’s recommendations and does not put the Mahan coal block on auction again.
